Damping springs and bogie springs are crucial components of railway freight car bogies, primarily used to mitigate vibrations and impacts during freight car operation. In high-speed, heavy-haul transportation environments, the operational quality of railway freight cars places increasingly stringent demands on the quality of bogie springs. Railway freight car bogie springs require regular maintenance, and, according to Ministry of Railways requirements, must be inspected and classified before installation. During routine quality inspections, disassembled bogie springs need to be transported to a designated location to assess their quality, differentiate between qualified and unqualified springs, and classify them. To improve the quality and efficiency of bogie spring maintenance and reduce labor, an analysis of bogie spring inspection and selection requirements, as well as their inherent characteristics, was conducted. Based on machine vision technology, a smart bogie spring inspection system was developed.
