China Ship Research Institute, also known as the Seventh Research Institute of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC), is affiliated with China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation. It is a scientific and technological research institution specializing in ship research, design, and development, serving as CSIC's military product technology research center and scientific and technological development center. Its main activities include strategic research on naval weapon equipment development, top-level technological research on ship systems, system integration and system engineering management, and research and development of dual-use technologies (military and civilian). The China Ship Research Institute's predecessor was the Seventh Research Institute of the Ministry of National Defense, established in June 1961, and it was successively affiliated with the Commission for Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense (COSTIND), the Sixth Ministry of Machine Building Industry, the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC).
