E-commerce giant JD.com has selected the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Xavier platform as the core AI compute for its next-generation autonomous delivery robots.

In the past few decades, China has accounted for over 40% of global e-commerce transactions—approximately hundreds of billions of dollars annually. According to data from the McKinsey Global Institute, this figure already exceeds the combined total of France, Germany, Japan, the UK, and the US.

To support this massive growth, major Chinese e-commerce companies are developing AI-powered delivery robots to transport goods between warehouses, accelerate last-mile delivery, and deliver products to consumers and businesses.

JD.com is a major Chinese e-commerce company with 300 million active customers and China's largest in-house e-commerce logistics network. It is the world's first e-commerce company to launch fully autonomous B2C fulfillment centers and commercial drone delivery. To meet the growing demand for deliveries, JD.com began piloting autonomous delivery robots in universities and business parks in 2017.

JD.com has established a strategic AI partnership with Xinmai Technology.

JD.com's delivery robots are equipped with multiple high-definition sensors connected to Jetson AGX Xavier, providing 360-degree real-time vision and perception processing to fully perceive their surroundings. This allows the delivery robots to easily navigate crowded streets, autonomously plan routes, avoid obstacles, and recognize traffic lights.

Kong Qi, Chief Scientist for JD.com's Robot Development, stated: “Our delivery robots require a platform with powerful computing capabilities and the ability to connect with various types of sensors to safely operate in dynamic and unstructured outdoor environments and interact with humans. This is why we chose Jetson AGX Xavier. It is the first platform designed for autonomous machines.”
