On November 28th, Hunan Province's first "smart highway"—the Pingyi Expressway—was officially completed and opened to traffic.

Unlike conventional expressways, Pingyi Expressway extensively utilizes cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, IoT, and Vehicle-Road Coordination to create the nation's first comprehensive smart highway operation and management platform. As the smart brain of the expressway, it achieves real-time (second-level) incident detection, rapid response, and multi-agency joint emergency response, using the power of technology to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers. With its high-quality products and professional application solutions, it undertook all ETC gantry toll collection systems, lane toll collection systems, and smart highway incident detection projects for this project.

ETC Gantry Toll Collection System KMDA-3610 Boosts Efficient Traffic Flow on Pingyi Expressway

The ETC gantry system is a crucial facility for eliminating provincial border toll stations and enabling electronic non-stop toll collection. Therefore, the ETC gantry toll collection system demands higher reliability and stability. The project adopted the KMDA-3610/S001 solution for the ETC gantry toll collection system, with a primary and a backup unit used within the gantry cabinet. The products comply with relevant Chinese industrial standards and application specifications, all featuring a rugged, fanless design. They can operate within a wide temperature range of -35℃ to +70℃ and possess extremely high stability and reliability, including dustproof, anti-corrosion, shock-resistant, and anti-electromagnetic interference capabilities. This enables continuous, reliable, and stable operation under harsh environmental conditions, thereby improving the overall traffic efficiency of the expressway.

Lane Controller KMDA-3921 (TCC-650) Application Solution

In the lane system, ensuring all toll station lanes are equipped with ETC functionality is a strong guarantee for rapid vehicle passage. Therefore, the stability of the lane controller is crucial. The Pingyi Expressway project adopted the TCC-650 integrated lane controller. The entire unit features fanless heat dissipation and provides 12COM, 6USB, 4*network ports, 32-bit relay I/O, and 5 sets each of DC 5V, 12V, and 24V power supply interfaces to meet the needs of all lane equipment. This enables real-time, efficient analysis and fusion of information from various types of sensors, significantly improving traffic efficiency.

Edge Computing KMDA-6920 Powers Pingyi Smart Highway Incident Detection

As is well known, in Vehicle-Road Coordination applications, edge computing plays an irreplaceable and vital role, providing powerful, reliable, and versatile AI computing power support for various Vehicle-Road Coordination use cases. All edge computing for Pingyi Smart Highway incident detection utilizes KMDA-6920, equipped with Intel® 10th Gen Comet Lake series processors and supporting computing power from 70 TOPS to 300 TOPS. Its compact size perfectly meets project requirements, allowing it to be mounted in pole-mounted enclosures. Deployed at 16 ramp entrances and 2 tunnel entrances, equipped with LiDAR and cameras, product solutions with different computing powers are adopted for 18 scenarios based on the processing of various structured data, providing Pingyi Expressway with an extremely safe and stable smart highway incident detection system.
