CompactRIO controllers are embedded controllers equipped with real-time processors and user-programmable FPGAs. Their product range covers various rugged systems and single-board RIO products, and they can be used as single-board computers (SBCs) and systems on module (SOMs).

The sbRIO-9628 is a CompactRIO single-board controller that runs the NI Linux Real-Time operating system and includes a user-programmable FPGA and I/O on a single board. The controller also features a RIO Mezzanine Card (RMC) connector, providing direct, high-speed, and high-bandwidth access to the processor. In addition to 16-channel 16-bit analog inputs, 4-channel 16-bit analog outputs, and 4-channel 5 V tolerant DIO ports, the sbRIO-9628 also features Gigabit Ethernet, CAN, USB, serial, and SDHC ports.
