With the rapid development and application of technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, and artificial intelligence, traditional cloud computing models face enormous challenges. This has spurred a transformation in computing paradigms, thus giving rise to edge computing.

Edge computing refers to an open platform that integrates core capabilities such as networking, computing, storage, and applications, located closer to physical objects or data sources, to provide services at the nearest point. Simply put, it means that after data is computed and processed locally at the data collection point (e.g., timestamping, data formatting, classifying event and process data), "on-site" decisions are made based on the results, and operations such as storing and forwarding the processed data to cloud platforms are performed.

Edge computing offers the following advantages compared to cloud computing:

Security: Raw data is processed locally, addressing the risks of data loss or information leakage due to the longer transmission path when private data is sent to data centers.

Low Latency: Edge gateways make "on-site" decisions based on pre-set business logic, eliminating the bidirectional transmission delay between the terminal and the cloud center.

High Reliability: No longer reliant on central servers, each edge gateway acts as an edge server. Distributed deployment avoids widespread shutdowns and production halts caused by central server failures.

As the carrier of edge computing services, edge computing gateways play a crucial role. The diversity of sensor interfaces, supported networking methods, and the CPU's computing power all impact the capabilities of edge computing. Especially in the context of the Industrial Internet, the convergence of IT and OT is also an important capability that edge gateways must possess. The FET1028A-C features 6 Gigabit Ethernet ports with TSN support and an integrated 4-port TSN-enabled switch, meeting the needs for converged communication of IT and OT networks in industrial settings.
