Design of a VPX Ethernet Switch Board Based on Loongson + Domestic FPGA (Part 1)
The exposure of "PRISM Gate" revealed significant security risks in China's information security. As network equipment serving as carriers for information transmission, there is an urgent need for their localization. Domestic processors, domestic programmable logic devices, and Ethernet switch chips, among others, have promising application prospects. On the other hand, the demands of broadband data services and multimedia services impose higher performance requirements on network equipment. The VPX standard, based on high-speed serial bus technology, is widely used in modern communications due to its high performance, high reliability, scalability, and excellent architecture. This paper conducts a systematic study of domestic chips and the VPX standard. Taking a certain information processing equipment as the background platform, a VPX-based Ethernet switch board was designed. Its core processor, programmable logic devices, and switch chips all utilize domestic chips.
2.1 VPX Bus Overview
2.1.1 VPX Bus Development
The VPX bus is a new generation high-speed serial bus jointly discussed and formulated by the VITA organization, authorized by the U.S. Department of Defense, with 28 internationally renowned embedded research and production manufacturers as core members. The VPX bus originated from the VME bus. As the industry's demand for bus technology transmission bandwidth continuously increases, the parallel VME bus gradually revealed its drawbacks. On one hand, parallel transmission relies on a single clock for transmitting and receiving signals, and bus bandwidth depends on the clock frequency
